Overview

Camera installation: every camera is a network device

A modern security system runs on your network. Modern cameras are network devices. They are powered over PoE, record to an NVR and send video to your phone over the internet. If they sit on a flat network with factory default passwords, they become the weakest point in your business.

That is why we start with a survey: what you want to see, at what resolution and how many days footage must be kept. We then put the cameras on a separate VLAN, set up secure remote access and take care of the signage and retention period that GDPR requires.

The service

What's included

IP cameras for every spot

Dome cameras for indoor areas, bullet cameras for the perimeter and varifocal cameras where zoom is needed. We choose resolution and lens based on distance and what needs to be identified.

NVR and storage

Recording happens on an NVR with drives designed for continuous recording. We calculate capacity based on the number of cameras, resolution and days of retention.

PoE cabling

Each camera gets power and data from one network cable. No power sockets are needed at the mounting points, and the NVR can share a UPS with the cameras.

Remote viewing

You watch live video and search for events from an app on your phone or computer. We set up accounts per user, so each person only sees what they are allowed to.

Alarms and notifications

We install alarm systems with motion sensors and contacts on doors and windows. Motion detection on the cameras can send a notification with a snapshot to your phone.

Access control

Cards, codes or IP door entry systems for entrances and restricted areas. You see who entered and when, and remove access immediately when an employee leaves.

Where each camera goes and why

In every survey we mark on a floor plan the zones that need covering and the field of view of each camera. This avoids blind spots, and also avoids filming areas that must not be recorded.

  • Limited retention period and automatic deletion of footage

Areas

Security systems and camera installation across Attica

We install cameras, alarms and access control on site across Attica: central Athens, Piraeus, Marousi, Kifisia, Chalandri, Glyfada, Mesogeia and Thriasio. As a licensed security-systems installer, we handle the survey, supply, installation and configuration.

The security systems we install are adapted to the premises: shops and restaurants with cameras on the till and entrances, offices with access control, warehouses and logistics sites in Thriasio and Mesogeia with perimeter cameras and long cable runs. We also install in homes and holiday homes.

Because we are also a network company, cameras go on a separate VLAN, with secure remote viewing and no factory default passwords. Where there is no fixed line, such as at holiday homes or construction sites, mobile viewing can run over Starlink.

How we work

From survey to handover of your security system

  1. Site visit

We walk the premises with you and note the spots that concern you. We check lighting, distances and cable routes.

  2. Survey and quote

We prepare a floor plan with camera positions and fields of view, NVR capacity and, if needed, an alarm or access control. The quote lists equipment and labour.

  3. Cabling and installation

We run PoE cables and install the cameras, NVR and switch. We weatherproof the outdoor connections.

  4. Configuration and security

We set angles, detection zones, privacy masks and the retention period. The cameras go on a separate VLAN and all factory default passwords are changed.

  5. Training and handover

We install the app on your phones and show you how to find and export an event. We hand over the passwords and the floor plan.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a subscription to view the cameras on my phone?
Not in most cases. Recording happens locally on the NVR and the manufacturer's app connects to it. Cloud storage is an option and usually has a monthly cost.
How many days is camera footage kept?
For most businesses, the Hellenic Data Protection Authority sets a maximum of 15 days, after which footage is deleted, unless an incident has been recorded, in which case the relevant clip is kept for as long as the case requires. We set the NVR to overwrite the oldest footage automatically and choose disks that comfortably cover that period, for all cameras at the resolution you need.
What should the information sign say?
The sign must be visible before someone enters the recorded area. It states that a video surveillance system is in operation, who the data controller is, the purpose and where people can find out about their rights. We suggest wording, but for final compliance please also consult your GDPR adviser.
Can I have cameras that film employees?
Cameras in the workplace are allowed to protect people and property, not to monitor employee performance. They are not installed in areas such as toilets, changing rooms or rest areas. Employees must be informed in writing and in advance.
Do the cameras work at night?
Yes. Most IP cameras have infrared lighting for black and white images in the dark. For colour night images there are models with low-light sensors or white light. We choose during the survey depending on the spot.
What happens if the power or internet goes down?
If the NVR and PoE switch are on a UPS, recording continues for as long as the battery lasts. Without internet you lose mobile viewing, but local recording carries on as normal.
Can you upgrade an old analogue system?
Often yes. Depending on the condition of the cabling, we either replace the cables with network cables for IP cameras or keep part of the existing infrastructure. We decide during the site visit.
Do you also install in homes?
Yes. We install cameras and alarms in homes and holiday homes, with viewing from your phone. Here too, cameras must not record public roads or neighbouring properties.
How much does CCTV camera installation cost?
The cost depends on the number and type of cameras (dome, bullet, varifocal), the resolution, whether cabling already exists or needs to be run, distances and heights, the NVR and disks, the PoE switch and the UPS. If an alarm or access control is added, the quote lists them separately. After a free site visit, or an estimate from photos for small jobs, we send you a detailed quote.
Is it legal to install cameras in my business?
Yes, to protect people and property, as long as you follow the rules of the Hellenic Data Protection Authority and GDPR. You need a visible sign before the recorded area, footage kept for up to 15 days unless there is an incident, and access to footage limited to named people. We are not lawyers: for specific cases ask your legal adviser or the Authority (dpa.gr).
Can cameras film the street or record audio?
Cameras should cover your own premises, not the public street, pavement or neighbouring properties beyond what is strictly necessary. Audio recording is not permitted. We set the fields of view and, where needed, privacy masks on the image, and switch off the microphone on cameras that have one.
Cameras in an apartment building: is a general assembly decision needed?
Yes. Cameras in the common areas of an apartment building, such as the entrance or the pilotis, need a decision of the owners' general assembly. Cameras must not look at the doors of individual flats. We ask for the decision to be in place before installation.
Does a security-systems installer need a licence?
Businesses that install security systems are licensed under Law 2518/1997. CyberSpace Dynamics is a licensed security-systems installer. Whichever installer you choose, ask them to confirm they hold the licence.
How long does camera installation take?
A small system with a few cameras and easy cable runs is usually finished in a day. Larger premises, new cabling at height or a combination with alarms and access control take longer. We state the timing in the quote and schedule the work so your business keeps running.
Wireless or wired alarm for a business?
A wireless alarm, for example Ajax, goes in quickly with no building work, which helps in rented or already finished premises. A wired alarm suits new builds or renovations, where cables are run before the finishes. Either way we make sure there is backup battery power and notifications on your phone.
