CCTV for corporate premises

Security cameras for offices, with respect for your staff

We install security cameras for offices in Athens and across Attica: entrances, reception, server rooms and car parks, combined with access control. No cameras over workstations, and a camera network set up by an IT company.

Security cameras for offices: fewer, in the right places

In an office the risk is not shoplifting but unauthorised entry: a visitor who walks past reception, a former contractor who still has a key, a weekend break-in for laptops and servers. That is why security cameras for offices go mainly at access points, not inside the working areas.

An office of 15 to 30 desks is often covered by just a few cameras, as long as they are well placed and work with the access control system. More cameras do not mean more security; they mean more personal data for you to manage.

  • Main entrance and reception: who comes in, with a camera that identifies faces
  • Secondary entrances, fire exit, stairwell
  • Server room or rack cabinet: focused on the equipment
  • The company's car park or ground-floor parking, where there is one
  • Archive or equipment storage with restricted access

What is not recorded in an office

The Hellenic Data Protection Authority's guidance on workplaces is strict. Cameras are not placed over workstations, in managers' offices, meeting rooms, kitchens and rest areas, toilets or changing rooms. Corridors are covered only where there is a real risk and the camera focuses on the protected point, for example the server room door.

Cameras are not used to check when someone arrived, how long they were away or whether they are working. Time and attendance is handled by access control and time-recording systems, with their own rules. Employees are informed about the system in writing before it goes live, and the notice becomes part of onboarding.

We are not lawyers. For special cases, such as areas holding classified information, ask your legal adviser or the DPA (dpa.gr).

Linking cameras with access control

The most useful setup in an office is video tied to access events. Every time a card, a PIN or the intercom is used, the system keeps the matching clip from the door camera. If a card is used at 23:00 on a Saturday, you see straight away who was holding it.

Ecosystems such as Ubiquiti UniFi (Protect and Access) or Hikvision's systems handle this link from a single app. When an employee leaves, their card is disabled in a minute, with no need to change locks. For visitors, an IP video intercom lets the door be opened from reception or from a phone.

Server room and IT equipment

The room with the servers, network rack and NAS is often the most valuable spot in the office, and often a cupboard in the corridor with no lock. A camera focused on the rack, together with an electronic lock or a door contact, tells you who opened it and when.

Because we are an IT company, we look at the room as a whole: temperature, UPS, cable management, locking. If needed we add a temperature sensor with alerts, so you hear about a failed air conditioner before a server shuts down.

The camera network is part of your network

IP cameras with factory passwords on a flat network are among the most common security gaps in businesses. In the offices we set up, cameras and the recorder sit on their own VLAN, with no access to the company's computers and files. Remote viewing goes through a VPN or the manufacturer's app, securely configured, not through open ports on the router.

We update firmware, keep a list of users with different permissions and, if you have an IT support contract with us, the camera system is monitored along with the rest of the network. In office buildings in Marousi, on Kifisias Avenue, in Chalandri, central Athens or Piraeus, we also coordinate with building management about the common areas.

Security without surveillance

What an office gains from a proper system

Video per access event

Every card or PIN door opening is linked to the clip from the entrance camera.

Visitor reception

An IP video intercom, with the door opened from reception or from the manager's phone.

Locked server room

A camera on the rack, a contact or electronic lock on the door, and an access history.

Isolated network

A VLAN for the cameras, no open ports to the internet, up-to-date firmware.

Few, well-placed cameras

Coverage of entrances and critical points, not workstations. Less data, less risk.

How we work

How we work in an office

  1. Meeting and survey

We talk with management and whoever looks after IT, and look at entrances, the server room, parking and the boundaries with other tenants in the building.

  2. Camera and access plan

We propose camera positions, access control points and an intercom, along with the areas that stay unrecorded.

  3. Installation with minimal disruption

Cabling in the suspended ceiling and the equipment go in during the evening or on a Saturday, so your team works as normal.

  4. Network and GDPR settings

VLAN, accounts, retention of up to 15 days with automatic deletion, signs at the entrances.

  5. Handover and documentation

Floor plan, device and password list, training, and a suggested text for informing employees.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put cameras inside the office where employees work?
As a rule, no. Workplace cameras are allowed to protect people and property at specific points, such as entrances and areas with valuable equipment, not over workstations. They must not be used to monitor performance. For special cases, ask your legal adviser.
How many cameras does an office need?
A single-floor office with one entrance and a server room is often covered by 2 to 4 cameras: entrance, reception, server room and perhaps the car park. Offices across several floors or with several entrances need more. The aim is to cover access points, not every room.
How much does installing security cameras in offices cost?
The cost depends on the number of cameras, whether there is a suspended ceiling or trunking for the cabling, whether access control and an intercom are added, and whether a PoE switch and rack already exist. We offer a free site survey or an estimate from a floor plan and photos, and the quote separates equipment and labour.
Can the cameras also handle time and attendance?
We do not recommend cameras for time recording. Using video to check working hours can amount to monitoring employees. Card or PIN systems are used for attendance, with their own notice to staff.
What if the office is in a building with other tenants?
Your cameras cover only your own space and your door from the inside. Cameras in the shared lobby, the lift or the building's garage are a matter for building management or the owners. We coordinate with them when needed, for example to connect to the building's intercom.
Is it safe to view the office cameras from home?
Yes, if access is set up properly. We do not open ports on the router. We use a VPN or the manufacturer's app with strong passwords and two-step verification where supported, and each user sees only the cameras assigned to them.
Can you connect the cameras to the office's existing network?
Yes, and that is usually the most economical option. We check whether your switch has PoE ports and supports VLANs; if not, we suggest a small PoE switch just for the cameras. If the network needs tidying, we do it on the same visit.
How long are recordings kept?
Up to 15 days, with the oldest footage deleted automatically. If an incident is recorded, such as a break-in, the relevant clip is exported and kept for as long as the case needs it. Only specific people you nominate can access the recordings.
